CDK Cyberattack Continues, Impacting Auto Dealers

Ongoing Software Outage Requires Manual Paperwork for Some

Dealers Navigate Challenges After Second Attack

Auto dealers across the United States are facing an ongoing software outage caused by a cyber attack on CDK Global, a major provider of retail software for the automotive industry.

The outage has forced some dealers to revert to manual paperwork, slowing down sales and service processes. CDK's dealer management systems store customer records and automate many aspects of dealership operations, including inventory management, sales tracking, and service appointments.

CDK first experienced the cyber attack on June 15, 2023, which temporarily disrupted its services. The company briefly restored some services on June 19, but was forced to deactivate them following a second cyberattack.

CDK has announced that it will likely take several days for its software to be fully restored and operational. The company has apologized for the disruption and is working diligently to resolve the issue.

In April 2022, CDK agreed to be acquired by the investment company Brookfield Business Partners for approximately $8.7 billion in cash. The acquisition is expected to close in the coming months, pending regulatory approvals.

CDK provides services to over 15,000 retail locations worldwide. Its software helps dealers manage their operations, including customer relationship management, inventory management, sales tracking, and service scheduling.
